MARYLAND THREAD!

Hi all! Out here in Carroll County, waiting for Bowman's Feed store to get their chicks in next week! Thought I'd pop in and say hi to my fellow Marylanders. I am new to raising chicks and I have been finding a wealth of info and advice from veterans on this site. I skimmed through the Maryland thread but didn't see a lot of other Carroll Countians, surprisingly enough. I did see you Mpgibs Hi there!

Hi there Chicknlvn! Thanks! :)

Hi! I live in Historic Rockville in Montgomery county. I'm excited about getting started with backyard chickens! Where should I buy feed and bedding?
Welcome LaurenDuvall! While I don't know where in Rockville to get feed, I know you can get pine shaving type bedding at any pet store.

HI! Try Southern States in Cedar grove or in Mount Airy or Frederick. If you are going Organic I know there is a co-op place in Frederick. And you can go to the Awesome swap!
If you just want to try it out, talk to Tyler at Rent-A-Coop in Potomac. I'm in Gaithersburg, but keep my girls in Urbana. In the meantime, read, read, and read some more! You can never learn enough or ask enough questions.

For all MD, Greenhill farms in Antitiem,md. is having their swap on april 23, 2016 barring any outbreaks.

Thank you! I went to Southern States, they were so nice~!!

Hi, Rattlecan, I have silkies, Wheaten and blue wheaten americana, 1 each RIR and BPR hens and my fibro project birds. Also have runner and Scovy ducks and I have a trio of Golden Cascades for sale that just started to lay.

Sorry I haven't been on much lately. Started my spring cleaning (from about 2007) and had to have my 11 month old siamese kitten put to sleep so haven't been in much of a chatty mood.

Anyway, I plan on going to the Sharpsburg swap. Anyone who wants to meet up and talk chickens is welcome to get in touch with me. :)

Hi fellow Marylanders! I just joined - I live in Boonsboro, but work in Westminster so I'm going to get my peeps at Bowman's on Monday. So excited! Is anyone in the Boonsboro area hatching Welsummers before the end of March ? I'd love to get my hands on one but they aren't available at Bowman's until May.

Welcome! I live in the Westminster area and I also got my chicks from Bowman's Feed. They are so very friendly and helpful there. I got six chicks (3 easter eggers, 2 australorps, and 1 golden comet). I have had no health issues whatsoever with the chicks I got and they are two weeks old now. Almost everyone I know swears by Bowman's, so I was pretty confident about my chickies! What types are you picking up on Monday and how many? Glad to have you join us and good luck with your new fluffies!

Hi ChickityChina (Barenaked Ladies reference???

) I've heard great things about Bowman's, one of my staff gets her chicks there. For sure I'm getting Barred Rocks, Golden Laced Wyandottes and Rhode Island Reds. The plan was to get two each... but I also want to try the Golden Comet, Speckled Sussex and Buff Orpington so maybe it will be a mixed flock. Our coop will hold 6 comfortably but it has a covered run and they will have plenty of free range time so I may try for 8. In any case, the Orp's aren't available until March 28 - I will be picking up 5 Monday for sure - so excited!!!
