MARYLAND THREAD!

In Pikesville:
We had what we thought was a sexed hen. Turns out he's a rooster. He's about 18 weeks and not aggressive. He's been hand raised (brooded in our home). Attached are pictures. If you are interested, please describe what his living conditions will be as we want to ensure he is going to a good home.

Contact your local Ag High School. They will sometimes take well-mannered roosters into their classroom program. Fingers crossed!

Have you tried hatching eggs from the store? They are often fertile! :)
The quail eggs you find in the store are Japanese coturnix. But no, I haven't. I might someday, but currently have no way to keep quail outdoors.

I went with button quail for the time being. They are smaller, and can be kept indoors. Or rather, have to be kept indoors.

I wish...
I wish I could take in all the roos that need homes. But I can't. I hope you find good homes for them!

You will want to post at this link (ads are not allowed in the state threads):

And probably Craigslist, because most people on BYC have chickens and don't need any more :).
Thanks for the reply. We ended up with two roos out of six chickens. We weren’t interested in the additional consideration of fertilized eggs,or hatching them. More importantly however is the 1/2 ratio we’ve found ourselves in. Naturally we’ve become attached to them, the cockerels, but want our hens to have a calm life. Will probably just get more hens, but will again have to keep our fingers crossed.
