MARYLAND THREAD!

Greenfeathers, Hi! This photo is of them at about 5 months. They grew more to about 8 lbs. My lavender had a fluffier butt than my other buff one. Both both were super friendly, really fluffy, good large egg layers and had good meat on them (as I saw after the hawk killed Heather). Pretty smart as well.

Ashley, I will still take 2 and hope one is a hen as my dd really is missing her "Heather". I have only 4 eggs for CL in lockdown but do have Ameracaunas, EE, and OE also in lockdown. Not sure how many really are viable as I only candled once. But will know by Tuesday! So we can talk. I will p.m. you. You could also get chicks or eggs from where I do. It would be a 2 hour drive but they have wonderful show quality poultry. They also can ship eggs or chicks. I don't think I would want to ship if I were that close to them! They do better not shipped.

Hi all - we have a motley crew of bantams and LF in hiward county. I'm looking for started pullets for my neighbor who is brand new to chickens! Anyone selling or know of area farms who might sell them?? Thank you!!!

It won't let me attach this to the above post.

Welcome! There are a number of options. But knowing what area in Md. you are would be helpful. I am on the western side of things and others here go out to the sandy shores or to the bottom of the bay. All have different recommendations. Do you have your coop set up yet? Do you want backyard mixes or show quality? What kinds? Is your area predator proof? Things to think about...

Thanks, Chikitychick! She was just killed by a hawk this past week. Sigh. We miss her even though they live at a wonderful friend's home.
My buff is still alive though.

Hi from Caroline Co. MD! Been using this site since I got my girls 5 years ago but finally joined. My easter egger vanished this morning and I am very sad. No signs of trauma anywhere.
Anyway, I am looking for 2 egg layers, preferably already of laying age. If anyone knows where I can find some, please let me know. Thank you!

Hi there and welcome!! I also had been browsing this site for years before I actually joined up. I didn't actually know where Caroline Co. was until just now. I googled MD counties lol! You know, MD isn't that big of a state, but I feel like we have the biggest divide between east and west of any state in the U.S. It's like the Berlin wall or something. I know almost nothing of the east MD area. I like this thread and being able to chat with people from ALL corners. Feels pretty united here.

I am so sorry one of your hens is gone. Maybe she just went for a walkabout and will return later. But, in the case she doesn't, I would try looking on Craigslist. Every time I did a search for "chicken" in the farm section, there were dozens of people selling actively laying hens. Hopefully someone nearby will have an ad up. Good luck.

Glad to have ya here officially!
