Massachusetts anyone?

Eastern Maine here... when can I put the chickens in their own coop rather than my cellar? It's still very cold, but they are getting awfully big!

Hello from South Central MA! My flock have made it through 3 winters so far with only 1 casualty. They aren't happy about being cooped up all winter, but if you design your coop with plenty of south-facing windows and keep the litter in the coop dry (I have to add a bale of shavings every couple of weeks when it starts getting sloppy) and make sure they have access to enough water (I sometimes change it 2x per day when it is really cold/freezes) they will be fine. It is just another sign of spring for me to let the chickens out to run around the lawn as soon as the snow melts. This forum is a great resource.

I was born in Holyoke, MA, lived in Wilbraham until I was 5, grew up in Shrewsbury, then moved to RI for 20 years and now I am back in Natick, MA! We have 4 hens and 4 eggs we are praying for! (It's day 23 and I am losing hope!) I am currently planning on building a better incubator and getting some Araucana eggs! I have noticed that chicken obsession creeps up quickly and I have never been good at math! LOL I'd love to chat with, touch base with, get to know any chicken people in my area! My husband so, stepdaughter, and I have a dog, cat, hamster, bunny, and our 4 beloved hens! I cannot wait until my older daughter visits from Michigan this summer with her family! I can't wait to see what my grandson thinks! I am loving it here at BYC! Great info, great people!!!

Hi and welcome, from Connecticut (I'm almost in Mass, I could walk to the state line from my house~)

You'll be GREAT at chicken math, I can tell!

Hi,

I live in southern Worcester County. I'm searching for a few good pullets to lay very dark chocolate eggs for me! WOuld like just a few, so within driving distance is a must.

Anyone breeding Marans ?????

That's very close to me! I am not thinking of Marans, I am thinking Araucanas but perhaps we could go in on an order. I don't know. I am hoping to build a better incubator and hatch some for myself. If you could find some Maran eggs, I would be willing to try and hatch for you, if you don't have an incubator! I want to put a large number of eggs in to try and get a good number for me! Feel free to contact me if you want to work together! You are the closest chicken fanatic I have heard from yet!

Western Mass here...Leverett. Just finished the coop and looking for a few young hens.
Anyone have wyandottes, marans, welsummers, or barnevelders in the area?
