Are your chickens going out today in the Weather today ?? Ice storm here and mine are staying in 
Man, I don't know what it is today. The darn hens will NOT go out in the completely enclosed run. Other then it is an ice storm but all you hear in the run is the tapping of rain- that is nothing new.
door auto opened at around 0745, lights came on at 0700 but they wanted nothing to do with the door. At around 0900 I even went out , cleaned off the roost, took the one egg in the nest, checked water/feed and tossed Scratch in the run. They went out for all of 2 min and came back in. Yes they even left a lot of scratch just laying out there too
I thought maybe there was something blocking the doorway that I couldn't see but Nope. 30º outside, 37º in the coop but they have gone out in 20º so that's not it either.... they have me stumped.
I wonder if they know the temp will plummet and the pressure is low ??
THIS IS why you make a coop Larger then you need it. They are all content just hanging around inside the coop, up and down from the roost and scratching around in the shavings.
Just goes to show you that no matter what you think you know about them they will make you second guess yourself every time.
OOOhhh, as I type they are slowly going out Wonder how long that will last.
