Well, it was suggested to me I believe by @henless that I create a singular thread, sort of a "master post" if you will, for all of my questions so that I can keep them all in one place and it will be easier to keep track of and look up answers.
Now, I of course have made a few random threads here and there since I've been here just as I thought of questions and did get some good answers but that's okay, they already got answered and it's not too hard to go back and look, just not the easiest or most convenient. What I'm hoping this will be is a place to make it easier for the future so I can have stuff in one thread and refer back to it so thank you to henless for the idea!
Currently I don't really have any questions but I will add to it as I think of them.
But so let's have an intro for those who don't know me. Some of this is in my signature but you can't see that on mobile anyway and this is convenient so here we go:
My name is Kelsey, I'm 21 and live in Massachusetts so does get cold but also hot in summer. Not too bad either way though. Still with my parents and on about 3 acres. I do have a dog and a cat but this thread is about the chicken questions and that info's in the signature if anyone cares sooo..
I ordered 9 chicks from Meyer Hatchery on September 18th and.they hatched Monday October 26th (just turned a week old Monday) and got here Tuesday. I had 2 each of Barred Rock, Black Australorp, Buff Orpington, and Easter Egger and 1 Meyer Meal Maker, their free chick. All female I think. Unfortunately, one of the Barred Rocks passed away on Sunday so we are now down to 8 chickens. Also, I believe that the free chick is another Buff Orpington which I am thrilled about but someone said all 3 of their extras were Leghorns so we'll see. She looks exactly like her sisters though. So yeah.
They were initially going in the garage but was worried about mice so moved them and have been in our bathroom since day one but fortunately it's being remodeled so torn up anyway.
however, we just bought hardware cloth yesterday so today they are moving out to the garage, cleared a spot and working on that now.
Oh and I am also using the Mama Heating Pad method but I am bad and didn't get the proper wire frame set up until I think Sunday or Monday (was using their box). Pad also broke Sunday and had to get another but that's not why the chick died.
All appear to be thriving now.though, LOVE the new frame, and are growing SOOOO fast.
I have a Dropbox album and will post that later for those interested.
So yeah. Kind of a master question post thing
