Mate died, will my goose be alright?

I just lost my 14 yr old gander a few weeks ago and it has been heartbreaking for me and for his mate of almost 10yrs. I have been worried about her but she has done so well. I moved her in with my Runners/Buffs and chickens So she wouldn't be alone in their house. Only a few times has she gone to their house and I opened the door so she could see Sam wasn't in there. She isn't calling for him now either. So I am feeling much better about her getting through this. I was sure expecting Sam to live into his 20's he was never sick in his entire lifetime. But I am very thankful to have had almost 15 yrs with him. Your story @Susieconnell made me think of all the good memories I have had with Sam hatching here under a Muscovy duck to him being papa goose to all the ducklings that hatched here and his precious relationship he had with Missy his mate.

I am so very sorry for you and his mate. 3 nights ago our Mr Bump died….what a daily joy he was, such a character. He has been faithfully protecting his two females Twinkletoes and Gracie. They are sitting on eggs but as he was handicapped we don’t expect any live birds but I don’t have the heart to stop them sitting until the 30 days plus has passed. Yes, they come our briefly to call for him, they look dejected. They are all middle d aged rescue geese.
what do we do? Did you Tansy recover now since February?
best wishes to you

I'm so sorry for your loss. I hope you do get some goslings from Mr. Bump and his mates Twinkletoes and Gracie.

It takes a while for them to grieve but they have each other will help. Just give them time and a lot of love.

And please let us know if any goslings hatch.
