Material for dust bath

How large of area for dust bath for 9 hens. And what is the best material to use?

If it is dry enough, they'll create their own.
But if I make one, I use wood ashes, dirt, sand and agricultural lime.

I use a plastic doghouse (which has a removable roof) and put our ash from the pellet stove in it.

My chickens live on top of a sand box and they live taking dust bathes in the sand.

Mine have chosen two spots in the pen to dig themselves dust baths. They're happy with the naturally-sandy soil combined with pine straw detritus.

What materials? I got the doghouse used from Facebook Marketplace. Craig's List is also popular in our area. The Wood ash, I got from our pellet stove. The big green turtle is a repurposed kid's Little Tyke's Sand Box. You can get peat moss and sand at Home Depot, Lowe's, or a garden center type store.
