Material inside coop

Awesome, thanks for the clarification!

I use shavings, not sawdust. Sawdust is very fine.

No I don't mean sawdust, I wouldn't use that. My feed store has fine shavings which is just smaller pieces, but nowhere near as fine as sawdust here are their options

I use shavings, usually aspen since they're sold in larger flakes than pine. Sometimes I mix in some pine to save money. Yes chickens will eat smaller flakes of shavings but as long as they don't overdo it it won't hurt them.

I've used larger and smaller pine shaving flakes and haven't seen any issues with either size shavings. I think you'll be fine either way you go.

@rosemarythyme and @dotm8rix, thanks I'll probably just stick with the large flakes because more come in the bag! I just covered the bottom of the coop and old shavings about an hour ago. That stuff lasts forever! I got it 11weeks ago when I got my first chicks, changed the bin they were in every couple of days because it became smelly very quickly being in the guest bedroom! The coop is 4 x 6 and we've covered the bottom at least 2-3 times and we still have half a bag left!

@aart thanks I'll give that a read!
