I'm "hen sitting" for some friends, and I nearly had a heart attack when I opened up the top to the egg laying area and found an absolutely HUGE egg. It is 92 grams, and about three inches long. So I logged on and found this sight where someone asked about her giant egg (over 8 oz and 4 inches long). No one replied. Hey. Does anyone know what causes a hen to lay an egg close to the size of a goose egg out of the blue? I have three chickens and they are pretty consistent. Our friends chickens are about the same. This is the third big egg our friend's hen has laid that is giant, but this one, while they are on vacation, is the biggest yet. Do you think maybe stress is a factor?
