My bantam rooster is mating with my EE pullet. They have been going at for quite some time now and I have yet to get an egg from her. When will she start laying?

How old is she?

Well just because she is mating doesn't mean she is laying, or that even has anything to do with eggs... Chickens will lay without mating or males around...and at 8 months I would think she will have begun laying...But some chickens seem to take longer than others. Hopefully she'll start soon. Is it possible that she has been laying the eggs somewhere else in the yard or something?

I kept them all in the coop today cuz that was what I thought but I didn't get an egg.

My one chicken is about 8 months also with no eggs and yesterday we saw the rooster about the same age trying to mate with her. These two have been together since we brought them home at approximately 10 weeks. I figure due to the amount of daylight I won't get any eggs until Spring, but was wondering if it was a sign she as about to start. It sounds like they don't go hand in hand though. I am positive they aren't laying unless they are eating the eggs and not leaving any evidence behind.
