Figured this wast he best place for this post. I recently just bought Black Australorps. Rooster and four hens. I would like to breed the rooster with my two rhode island reds. Will he mate with said RIR or will he only mess with his previous ladies. Also i just got him little over a week ago. When will he make his moves.

Hello!

He will mate with any breed of hen. Chickens aren't picky that way. After he starts feeling comfortable with his new surroundings, and if he's reached maturity, then he will begin mating with the hens. Roosters do need a little practice at first with the mating......chicken mating can look very rough, especially at first. They get smoother with age. It's a learning process for them.

I have a feeling that if you left a sock laying around the rooster would put some of his smoken hot love moves on it. Don't think they are too picky, give him a couple weeks until he can whoo the new girls. They need to accept him or they will just peck him on his head and run him off. You kknow how crabby us women can be

When I was young, we had a rooster that was in love with a football...right now, I have a bachelor roo that's in love with his food dish

Your guy will just love his new women once he gets to know them :) The only times I've seen roosters care is my 'regular' roosters won't touch my silkie hens!
