I own a couple of OEG chickens - 3 roosters, 4 hens, and 5 chicks. They're generally free-range, and there is an Alpha roo, but lately they've been a bit too free-range, and we had to lock them up in a couple of coops. My stepfather locked up one hen with two roosters, and I thought that wasn't the smartest idea but let it be. This was four days ago. During the night, the hen escaped and has been on the loose since then. Just now, we caught her and put her back with the two roosters. What proceeded that was difficult to see, to say the least. They both ravaged her. For a solid thirty minutes, my poor Honey couldn't breathe because those two huge roosters were on top of her one after the other, and sometimes at the same time. After a while, they stopped but she was shaking and panting. I wanted to take her out of there instantly, or at least put another hen, but my stepfather insisted that what they were doing was natural and that she was fine.
I still don't think keeping her in with those two roosters is a good idea, but is it possible the three of them can get along without completely destroying her? They're all under 7 months, as well as siblings. The roosters get along just fine with one another; even when they were free-range, they were always together. Advice?
