Mating in late November

In the Brooder

I am a chicken lady. Never that interested in having ducks but a few months ago I was given 4 ducks. One is definitely a small Khaki Campbell. One is a white Peking. The other two I have no idea. I also have no idea what sex they are. They have been very entertaining. The past couple days is appears the large white peking has been attempting to mate with the little Khaki Campbell. I am wondering if this is actually what is going on because I can not imagine a duckling hatching out in the winter....brrr. Also how will I know not to collect the eggs? Are ducks broody like chickens?

collect the eggs daily, newly laying hens arent always reliable broodies. Khakis are not known to be good sitters, but excellent layers. Also ducks are indiscriminate breeders. boy/boy, boy/girl, girl/girl they dont seem to be picky. Unless you want to run a back up incubator and brooder in the house for the winter since its cold where you live, best to collect and eat those eggs.

You were certainly correct on two accounts. Right about the indiscrimate mating! The large Peking is definitely a make, the little brown is definitely a female, the other two turn out to be female as well. The large gray female also tries to mount the other two females! You also were right on about the Khaki, even now in the spring she has no interest in sitting.
