mating

So I have red stars and red pullets ( supposivly 2 different breeds) and I only have hens.... I'm thinking of getting a rooster from mypetchicken.com ... but the thing is I want a different breed... will the two birds mate??? ( I really wouldn't care what the babys look like) but I'm sceptical that I would spend 30$ on shipping to get a rooster who dosnt mate.

PLEASE HELP ME!!!!

They will just about all mate if they are standard breeds. Just and FYI..... A pullet is not a breed. That means females. So with the red stars.... Aka golden comets. U could possibly have a male unless they are pullets too. Even then they occasionally get it wrong. Lol

Before you Spend alot of money on a Roo, check craigslist in your area and see if anyone is giving them away if you don't really care about the breed. Boys are much easier and cheeper to find than girls.

I know that a pullet is just a female but I got them from tsc and the two different tubs were marked golden comets.(pullets).. I call red stars...and red pullets so are they the same... because the golden comets are developing way quicker then the red pullets

U probably got what they call production reds when u bought the red pullets. These are usually a combo of rhode islands, red stars, and New Hampshire reds. Either way a male from either group will successfully breed any if the other one u bought if u have any roosters in the bunch you will be fine

Yep. A bantam roo will have a harder time fertilizing eggs, but he'll have fun trying!
As stated, any standard breed roo will mate with your hens. You'll have cross breed babies, which can be quite fun.

I second the suggestion to look for a local rooster. Don't order one, folks are giving them away in a few months when they get old enough to tell they got roosters by mistake. You'll have several breeds to choose from.
