actually one more thing... say i were to put a silkie bantam in with them... there are six hens what would you say is the probability of getting fertilized eggs? And i was looking in my area on craigslist and there really isnt anyone who is selling a rooster for anything but a show bird so theyre all like 60-70$

with that is there any breed you would suggest that would be a cool crossbreed with the red starts?

Silkies can mate with the big girls. maybe not 100% fertility, but with only six hens chances are pretty good.

As far as a roo, I'd just wait a month or two. Folks are buying day old chicks now, and in a month or so they'll see who was mis-sexed and know their oops roos. That's when they'll be free all over the place...around here, anyway.
