mating?

We have 7 pullets and 3 roos all will be 4 months old on Aug 6. The last couple.of days our alpha has been grabbing some of the girls by the back of the neck, pushing them down and trying to.climb on their back. Our girls have not started laying yet but is he trying to mate already?

Yes, he probably is trying to mate them even though they are still young. It he isn't mating, he is at least trying to dominate them that way. If you start to see a lot of feather loss on the hens, it might be a good idea to remove one or two of the roosters from the flock, as over-mating can damage the hens.

Well let the roosters be, they are just getting the hang of things, if you have more than 1 rooster than when they get older they will fight for being the best of everyone. But don't worry and if the females get some missing feathers put Vaseline on were the feather were.
