I have a 2 year old poor quality (breeding not health) Black Jersey Giant from Townline Hatchery that has been laying very small eggs. She has never laid large eggs, I'm lucky to get a medium sized egg out of her. But for the past month her eggs have been extremely small, like they were when she first started laying. The insides are normal, and the shell quality is good. This started when she resumed laying after being broody, a month ago.
All other chickens are laying just fine. Everyone appears healthy with good looking poops and eating and drinking well. No stress I can think of and no new members added to flock. They have constant access to Purina Flock Raiser with oyster shell offered in separate bowl. They get a 1/2 cup of scratch tossed out in the a.m. and a 1/2 cup of BOSS and mealworms in p.m. No change in diet except they have not free ranged in 2 or 3 weeks due to the heavy fox activity. That was only 1-2 hours per day though.
These are yesterday's eggs. The BJG's egg is the tiny one at the bottom. Could this be a sign or symptom of something I need to be looking for or no big deal?
