A week ago my dachsy was badly mauled by the neighbor's dogs; nine of them. By the time I got to her (in my yard) she was pretty ripped up. The one doing the most damage was a very large pitbull. She was given penicillan and meds for pain. Now, a week later she is doing well-pretty much back to her old self. The many wounds are healing well with no sign of infection.

My concern is that she is loosing weight. She eats but throws it all up, or most of it. Anyone have ideas of what to feed her that might stay down? So far the only thing that helps is to feed treats or other foods in very small amounts. The picture is of Heidi before she was injured.

That is horribly sad! Did you ask your vet what to feed her?
when my doggies have been sick we do bland foods like white rice, boiled chicken or sweet potatoes until their tummies settle but o don’t know if that’s right for this situation!

We have all three foods you mention; we'll give it a try. Vets are beyond our resources unless there is no other choice. My wife worked as a vet's assistant for many years and is quite capable. When it comes to our small animals I think she knows more than some vets. She believes it's just going to take some time for Heidi's system to get over the meds and the shock. Between us, I am the worry wart.

Thank you for your reply.

Antibiotics are rough on the stomach. I go with that diet the other poster gave you for the time being. Have you called law enforcement. I love dogs but they need to be where they are supposed to be. Basic training is not that hard.
Why have a dog that you are gonna lose????? Heidi is a cutie.

The neighbor lady is a friend of my wife. Heidi is a third victim. First my tom turkey was mauled and then a Phoenix rooster-both survived only because I saw what was happening and intervened. The first two times I talked politely; with Heidi I lost it and said what should not have been necessary. The neighbor dogs are now locked up and we are in the process of fencing our yard. She allowed the dogs to roam the neighborhood-they have no basic training. Our dogs are kept to home going outside only when I do.

Thank you for reply.

I'm so sorry. I hope she gets better soon. Maybe try feeding her a little treat to get her to eat some? My dogs are picky and feeding them a little treat helps get them started. I can't really remember what happened but my Maltipoo Teddy wasn't feeling goog and threw up after eating so the vet recommended Purina Pro Plans veternairy diets. It was a war food and it kept him hydrated too. I'm quite pucky about their food but this seemed to help and he didn't throw up.
Give Heidi a hug for me

She gets lots of treats but getting her to eat is not the problem; it's keeping the food down and inside her. She has not vomited her treats today so I am hoping...

Below is our maltisnauzer, Lilli, and her daughter, Bindy, who is a maltisnauzeraranian.

Oh my goodness they are just adorable! Is Bindi a Maltese, Schnauzer, Pomeranian mix?
