Max birds for my coup space

Quote:
We have a 4"x6" coop that opens onto a 10"x25" run. Our 6 girls are very happy in this space. There are 2 factors that I would consider.
- How much outside space in the run and..
- How much time will they spend in the coop during bad weather.

If part of the run is actually covered it will provide outside access in foul (no pun intended) weather. We are considering actually adding 2-3 more to ours in the spring but are waiting to see how this winter goes.

I think this chart is off also

Type Sq Ft/Inside Sq ft/Outside
Bantam 1 4
Laying Hen 1.5 8
Large Chicken 2 10
Quail 1 4
Pheasant 5 25
Ducks 3 15
Geese 6 18

This chart is saying I could have 53 layers in my 8x10 coop, I think I will stick with my 13 chickens giving them just over 6 sq each

I think for 24 sq feet 5 or 6 birds would work the only thing that could be a problem is getting the 10 - 12" of roosting space per bird inside that area. plus nest if they are layers so maybe 4 would be better.
