I set 20 Black copper Marans and 10 Olive egger eggs last Thursday afternoon.
This is my second attempt at shipped eggs.
Hoping to get some babies this time.
My first attempt was a ZERO hatch.
Don't even want to talk about that one anymore.
Here's to May!
Come join me??
Pretty eggs hoping for pretty fluffy butts!
Oh funny story.
Last weekend I put my 1 month old SLW's out in a pen in the sunshine.
Later as I was waiting for my son to get his tropical snow I turned to my husband and said
"Oh no! I left the babies outside!"
The look on the young girls face standing close to us was priceless.
Of course I immediately explained they were bird babies not Human...she calmed right down..

Hi,
I'm in.......have a hatch for next week......
setting the incubator full on Tues.
Also..........lost my beautiful Red molted Serama rooster last week
Got sometning caught in his throat and I could not get it out.
Been saving eggs from the two hens he was with to put in the incubator
and by Golly, have a Serama hen that has gone broody......................

They do so much better job than the incubator, especially with these little eggs.............
Good Luck All.......................

I have never had a hen go broody. I wish I did.
I have one RIR an Australorp ..SLW ..Red sex link..Brown leghorns...I would thik one of these would go broody. My old lady Brn leghrn is almost 7 and yet never....
SO I am an incubator gal...still.
I hadn't turned my eggs since I set them Thursday afternoon. Today I just put a book under one side of the bator.
Since they are shipped I don't want to move them much but had to do something to cure the urge.

setting 42 tomorrow 4/21 should be due 5/12

We'll be close, setting 24 23 Buckeye eggs on 4/21, half of which will be fertile, half of which may or may not be fertile. Hoping for a Mother's Day hatch.

Dang it! Hubby dropped one when we were putting them in the incubator! Of course it was one of the ones that should have been fertile too. He says it's ok though, because that one was a boy (he could tell).

I have never heard of a buckeye!

Need pictures!

They're a pea combed dual purpose breed that lays large brown eggs. This is my first year with them, I'm lucky enough to live less than a mile from an APA judge who breeds them (among other breeds). The first time I saw them was at the Crossroads show in Indiana, I mistook them for rose comb Rhode Island Reds at first.

These are the chicks from my mid-Jan hatch taken about a month ago.

Same chicks at 1-2 days old.

These have been hands down the friendliest chicks I've ever raised.
