May 2, 2009 Cocke County TN, APA ABA Sanctioned Show

I called and talked to the person with the Cochins. his name is "Red" Murchison, and he was the one with the champion large fowl langshan! (bodyflight, I asked him and their tail is normally like that!

) so I'm confident that these are good quality birds!

I'll post pics when I get them Saturday

Hey Jake! Did I say how great it was to meet you! Lexi and I had a fun day thanks to you
wink.png

You gotta keep us in the loop about those little cochins, turns out Lexi really likes those little ones too... I could have a few in the yard I suppose!

So Langshans are like that without any effort huh? How crazy is that! They really have major fan tales!

I know! I feel sorry for the poor guys!

He lives in Sevierville, and I told him I would drive up there, but he insisted he meet us in Morristown, which is actually closer for me! it sounded like he had so many birds he wasn't entirely sure what he had, but he said he'd get me the birchens, frizzle hens, and who know's what else!

And hopefully I'll have lots of eggs and babies from them, so i can get you some!!!

We look forward to seeing your new chickies then! How great that he's willing to practically bring them to you.

Today 17 roses & cybercat came over and picked up 2 of our buff orp production hens and it was great to meet both ladies! My girls will have a nice new life in Greeneville! YAY

That's good!

Oh I almost forgot, I know someone who might be interested in a non-production buff Orp rooster if you ever have any extras. I'm trying to convince him that hatchery birds are not superior and I told him about Steve and he's coming around!

Gratz Jake !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was given more sick chickens/guineas the other day haha

They are slowly dying but they aren't in a pen at a feed store getting pecked to death. Anyone know of any neurological thing that affects/kills guinea keets that doesnt seem to be bothering the chicks?? Can't find any answers on that so far

I got my lavender d'Uccles Monday!
I let them rest quietly after getting them home.
Yesterday it was nice when I got home from work, so I moved their temporary cage outside, took the bottom off, and let the cage rest on the grass. Took them a few minutes to figure out what the green stuff was, but then they had a blast!

I sang them a lullaby while I put them back inside for the night. So cool to her them trill back at me

When DD2 saw them she asked if her step-dad had seen them yet, and how much trouble was I in? She was stunned to learn that he said they were 'kinda cute.'

DD1 said they scared her, they looked like ghost chickens. She didn't realize the millies, silkie, & polish had been moved to the tractor outside, so she walked over expecting to see 'the colorful chicks' and instead saw pale grey birds. She's easily freaked out

Didn't get much time to talk to Amazondoc. But I have a favorable impression based on her birds
big_smile.png
They were clearly loved on, and expect to be handled. Can't wait to see what they look like mature. I think they will be a little big, based on their feathers & size compared to my millies of the same age. They have decent hocks, good foot feathers, and are getting their cheek fluff in.

Yes, I know I should post a picture. Haven't taken one yet. They were so ruffled up their first night, and last night I was too busy playing. I'll get one tonight...

They're here!!

We met him at wal-mart this morning and I had already decided no matter what the quality of the cochins I'd buy them as long as they were healthy cause it would still be a good deal. I got there and..... they were amazing!
droolin.gif
he had 3 pairs of very nice breeder quality birchens (One of the roosters is possibly show quality and one is very close) and one black frizzle hen and smooth rooster! the only problem: I had to put them all in one pen, but they had to be separate!
barnie.gif

well I figured one pair can go in with the 3-month old RIR's, I had to put up a partition between the other pen with a cage in one side, to fit all 4 pairs.
lol.png

he priced me $45 for 2 birchen pairs and the frizzle pair, but I gave him 50 for the good deal and the drive. then he said he'd give me the other pair for free so he wouldn't have to take it home, I warned him I'd just have to resell them but he said that was fine and I gave him $8 anyway, that was all I had because I had only brought $58 (this wouldn't be the first time I've spent all my money on chickens so I don't bring too much!

)

some of them were blinking or asleep, they're eye's are fine I've checked

now, without further adieu;
this hen is definitely the best hen. she has near perfect color and nice shape (sorry bad pic)

this is my favorite rooster, I think. he has the best color and probably the best shape, but the comb worries me. he's probably the one I'll keep

this is the second best rooster, his color isn't all that good but his comb is near perfect! he's for sale $20

this is the second best hen, she has good color but a very small cushion

this rooster has bad color, but I still like him (I don't know why I didn't get a better picture
roll.png
) he's for sale if someone wants him he'll be 15$

and this hen is a little ratty but she's nice. Her cushion is about right but everything else isn't full enough. i think she's been over-bred

this is the gorgeous black rooster! he has really shiny feathers but his comb is a little stumpy with too many points

and the frizzle hen! I love her!
