May 2020 Hatch-A-Long

Pics
Not sure any are stuck right now I can pull them out. These are fairly large. I didn't put any of the smaller ones in yet.

They may be fine if yours are larger. It didn't happen to all of them but the ones that got stuck were so stuck she broke them trying to get them out. It was sad so I wanted to give you a heads up just in case.

Mine would take 72 hours from external pip. So frustrating lol.
Looks like mine will too. 🙄 Oh well... the brooder's ready for 'em. I went down to get a pic and found another one hatched. I'm not sure I'm gonna be able to tell them apart until they get bigger, but the Anconas have blue shells. I'm gonna lose track sometime soon, all the same. 🙄😂

If they did get stuck I would just shut the turner off and not touch them until they hatched.

He was a looker! Barred rock? Our first accidental roo was a BR... And he was a huge jerk. :gig
He was supposed to be a Barred Holland but we never got any hens to test it out if he really was. He was really photogenic when he wasn't either going after my husband or stalking my 2 yr old. He always took beautiful pictures.

I know this isn't the place but I posted in the broody hen thread and have gotten no replies. If anyone is will to help it would be greatly appreciated. Its about eggs,2 hens, and hatching. Thank you!
I have hatched with 2 broodies, what’s your question? I am about to go to bed but I will answer you tomorrow if I don’t tonight (GMT).

Ok, just saw your question on the other thread. Sounds like a difficult situation. In the first place, you don’t want to let other hens add to a broody’s eggs. Next time, mark the eggs when she starts sitting so you can remove any eggs that get added. Maybe you should do that now so you can remove any eggs added at this point. The hen will abandon any unhatched eggs after a few days to care for the chicks, but if you have an incubator you can throw the newer eggs in there and maybe hatch them yourself.

Second, you can run into problems if you have two hens at different stages of broodiness. I had a hen go broody once after another hen had already been sitting for 2 weeks. When the eggs started to hatch, the new broody got upset, thinking that it was too soon for babies to be hatching, and killed them. So my advice would be to separate the broodies & give them their own nests. Good luck!

I said I wouldn't hatch again for this year... then something got our rooster Mr.Sparkles yesterday. Now I'm on a mission to try and hatch some eggs from this week to keep a piece of him going. Mr. Sparkles was a jerk on a good day to people, but he danced and took wonderful care of his hens and ended up giving his life for his girls. View attachment 2104061

So sorry something got your rooster. :( We just went through the same thing. I hope that you get some great chicks out of the eggs!
