I get that, I plan to sell hatching eggs next year. The plan will be to test incubate before I start advertising. I feel we owe that to the customer.

I did 5 hatches before I started advertising my eggs. I know what egg will hatch what, but I just traded out roosters so this next batch should have some amazing colors.

7 Ameraucana eggs, 1st hatch! On day 4 now and candles them. All but one seem to have healthy veins started up and ready to go. Not sure about the last one and will watch.

Started out with 7 eggs on April 14th, only three of them started developing and one broke. So two barnyard mixes set to hatch on May 5th! This is with a broody, but my new Brinsea Maxi II is arriving today and I'll be setting more soon.

Ooh I hope you like the maxi! That's been on my wishlist

I just did a candling on my eggs that are due to hatch next week. Weight on them is looking good. Every one of them is with in one or two grams of their target weight before hatching.

I also got to see that we still have movement in the black east indie eggs.
The welsh harlequin are looking good lots of healthy veins going on but they have some growing to do still.

Surprise news for me today. My first Black East Indie egg that I have been collecting and testing for fertility finally is showing growth. That one is due to hatch on May 21st. Super excited to get a few babies out of my own flock.

Eggs from my friend the Cayugas that I set Wednesday last week were all clear. I think the chicken eggs she gave me this time all but one is clear on those too.

I have one set of eggs coming in this week super excited to get them. A rare duck breed. Got a new incubator set up and waiting for them. A new IncuView from incubator warehouse. Hoping for awesome things.

Nearing the end of day 19 here... I feel like the Final Jeopardy song from the game show Jeopardy is playing in the background. No news is good news for now. I dreamt that none of my eggs hatched and this was all for naught!

Well...... I grew them all out so I could see who would be the prettiest (keeping egg colour genes in mind) and then my husband had a "rooster day " and he processed the current rooster at the time (no one liked him much) and 9 of the cockerels (are they still cockerels at 6 months?) ... so I still have 5.

I found they aren't good for much but soup..(and even then...a bit dry and stringy). If anyone has a good cockerel recipe, please share!!

I'm toying with the idea of keeping a second flock on the far side of the house, so they can wander thru the veggie garden eating bugs etc... it would be about 500 ft from the barn/coop- so I'm not sure if the flocks would stay separate or not...

Anyways, that's what I did- and I have too many roosters! But I love how fancy they are!

Um... they'll also scratch up your plants while eating bugs in the garden. (Don't ask me how I know. ALSO.... I've heard wonderful things about Instant Pot pressure cookers turn tough meat into awesome tender, good tasting. (I know I've enjoyed mine but all I've made were some AWESOME meatballs so far. There's a facebook group for recipies).

I just set 9 Wheaten/Blue Wheaten Ameraucana eggs in my incubator! Very happy with how they were shipped by the breeder; fingers crossed for a good hatch. I wish I'd started a bit earlier so these could be brooded with my chicks from Hoovers (two weeks old today). Oh, well; at least I've got plenty of quarantine entertainment now!

ok, so I am on day 19 trying to get this humidity perfect.... there are two plugs.... if I unplug one hole I get 74% humidity- if I unplug both holes I get 68% humidity. which is better? I have 42 eggs, majority are Marans.(if that matters).

The lower one is best because your humidity will spike once they start hatching and you don't want condensation in your incubator.
