May 2020 Hatch-A-Long

Pics
I just got 18 beautiful eggs of a rare duck today in the mail. They made it through shipping with only a slight bit of raffling of their air cells. But none are detached. This was awesome to find out as the last set of eggs shipped to me ended up with half of them detached.

Maybe Sandy....(kinda short for Sanders and feminine)
I thought about that. I'll be honest though, I don't really name my birds. BokBok only got named because he yells that at me when he thinks I'm encroaching on his patrols. I did try to name the very first hens I ever had, but it didn't stick because I couldn't usually tell them apart (RIR and Barred Rocks) 😂

Ok, Its day 21 (technically at 10 pm tonight) but I am in mid hatch! I have 8 in the brooder so far, and looking good. #9 is staring to pop out, lots are zipping.
QUESTION- one little chick (an olive egger) didnt get all fluffed up- and when I moved her to brooder, I noticed her feathers are are dry and stuck to her. What shall I do?

I know so little about death layers! What do you like about them?
So far I like their looks and combs. They're very protective of my flock. They aren't human aggressive or aggressive when mating. They do like to roost outside. Mine I think are a mess up in genetics. I received them from a friend and their eyes are not Deathlayer colors which is solid black, mine have yellowish eyes so somewhere someone messed up with their bloodlines. I call them Deathlayers but most likely they got mixed with something else at the breeders.

She was a sticky chick when hatched I assume. I leave mine like that and after a few days it goes away.

Some wash their chicks with warm water then dry them, but I have never done that.

This chick below was like that last week and now it's all fluffy. I did nothing to it. They clean themselves off, I don't intervene.

See how it's all kind of matted looking

I guess, although she doesn't feel sticky- more "crunchy". I will leave for a few hours and post a photo if it doesn't resolve.
