Lost #8 and #1 today. I don’t know if they cracked when she hopped in or if we have a cannibal broody but I’m heartbroken. I would consider moving them to an incubator but mine takes 3 or 4 days to calibrate and it will be lockdown by then.

Where did you get your buckeye eggs? I just had an attempt at color sexing mine as I’d read it was possible but it didn’t seem very definitive in mine.

Did you notice if they have dark head spot or light wing spots? Some of mine had one or the other but some had both. So not very useful.

One of the chicks that I gave to the broodies popped its head up to say hi! They are still on the nest and it looks like they are loving their new babies.

Looks like it was a rat attack. I just found egg #1 still intact in an area of the coop that the hen can’t reach. It’s cold but maybe it still has a chance. I’m still so sad about #8 though. It was the strongest of the bunch and far enough along that I could tell it was from the type I wanted

Well, my hatch is officially over. I ended up with 14 total hatched, gave 2 to my SIL and the last hatched had health issues and died. So I now have 11 beautiful Swedish Flower chicks. Most are black and white, 2 are brown and one is blue and white. Here is the blue one:

I had one of the black copper marans eggs hatch and 7 quail. One of them is mysteriously yellow instead of Pharoah pattern.

I have a shelf of my Dickey’s loaded up with eggs for a farmer off of Craig’s list. There are 85 I think. Not sure what breed. When I asked what kind of eggs they were they just said ‘chicken’ they are supposed to hatch on the 27th.
