May 2023 Hatch-a-long

Pics
Have 9 hatched. 2 left to go. One I think was peeping in the egg, one nothing so guess I see. But only got I think 1 poorly marked CCL, the rest are ice cream bars..... Think she is separating them and giving me more eggs. But the chicks I am giving her are due to hatch in about 2 weeks so doesn't that mean most likely the same roo fertilizing them then?

Woohoo! I did put some eggs in a day late, so a bunch are a day behind including my silkies. So it will be like popcorn all weekend and Monday (hopefully!)

I am also doing a small hatch with my class, and those 12 eggs are due Tuesday! The kids can’t wait to come back Monday to see if there is any action!
Hey fellow teacher! Mine are due Tuesday too and the students are already asking too 😂

I have 5 out now, and a bunch more Pipped!

I had a “duh” moment…I set 12 eggs a day late…realized after the first chick hatched that I didn’t put those eggs in the 12 egg Kebonnix to hatch and so everything would be staggered. So I quick took all the day-late eggs out of tbe 360, them quick moved the Kebonnix eggs into their places, and then put the day-late eggs in the Kebonnix. I would have kept them separate but the late eggs were smaller and easier to stack. How silly I didn’t think about it at lockdown! 😂

Another question, how long do you all usually leave your chicks in the incubator. The first two are pretty dry…I am anxious to move them but maybe it would be easier in the morning? It wouldn’t be 24 hours that they were in there if I wait…

I have taken some out after a few hours and let some stay close to 24 hrs

I take them out when they're dry. Some stay in a bit longer though, especially if there are more eggs hatching, to 'encourage' them.
