I noticed one of my 9 day old chicks breathing hard yesterday and he died this morning. He didn't seem to be maturing like the rest. Is there a problem or what could be wrong?

Sometimes chicks just die. Make sure they have proper temp, bedding, food and water and hope for the best. Watch for any others to act off and then let us know

A thousand different things. Not enough information.
How many chicks and how are they brooded i.e. space, temperature, food etc.?

Most people I know have them in too small of a space and at too high a temp.

I have 5 chicks remaining. 3 rhode island reds and 2 black giants. They are in a rabbit pin with a reflector light on top with a 75 watt light bulb in it. Pine wood shavings and a pint size waterer with vitamins in that and a pint size feeder. The cage is covered on the north end with a blanket to keep out drafts. Set up is just like pictured on this website. I have raised chicks before but it has been 20 years. I just wanted to make sure my other chicks will be ok! Maybe stress? Not sure is all!

I think it was just one of those things! My dad raises chicks and that is what he said. I have been out of chicks for a while and just was making sure!
