I have a question for you all. I have my goose eggs in the bator, due on the 19th (Friday). Things are going very awry in my bator right now, and I need some other opinions!! Here's the deal.....

I had a turkey hatch on the 1st, one day early.

I then had 2 coturnix quail hatch on the 5th, right on time.

Then I had 3 chukars hatch on the 8th, as scheduled, but 4 other eggs (from the same batch, set at the same time in the same bator) hatched 2 days late.

Then I had pheasants due on the 11th. Nothing....until last night. One of the eggs pipped (there were 2 eggs only). That one is finally hatched, with help since the shell was stuck to it so badly.

The reason the shell was stuck so badly was that I had to move my guinea eggs to the hatcher real fast! They weren't due until Monday, but one had a huge pip in it when I turned the goose eggs! It hatched overnight, so it is 3 days early.

Next in line to hatch are bobwhite quail, due on the 17th (Wednesday). Guess what? 2 pips out of 4 eggs so far!! So these are pipping almost 5 days early!!

Anyway, my question is should I move the goose eggs to the hatcher early, in case they too decide to hatch early, or should I just keep an extra close eye on their development? I had a blue american goose hatch about a month ago, and I totally feel it would have been both eggs, but one had pipped internally while I was still turning them, on day 26.

So all, what should I do? Move the goose eggs a few days early (like when these other goofy eggs are done)? Or should I just hold out and wait?

Thanks to any who dare to help!

I think your thermometer is off. It sounds like there are two many eggs hatching early. I'd turn the temp down a hair and leave them be. Although how are you cooling and misting them with the other eggs in there?

I just leave the top off the bator for 10-15 minutes, and spray them directly with a spray bottle. All the other eggs in there need higher humidity, though not quite as high as the goose eggs. I just spray them every time I turn them to make up for it.

But not all the eggs are hatching early??

The chukar and pheasant eggs are about the same size. Some chukars hatched on time, and some were 2 days late. The one pheasant that hatched was also 2 days late.

Coturnix and bobwhite eggs are the same size, if anything the bobwhites are a little smaller. But both these types are smaller than the chukars or pheasants. The coturnix hatched on time, and the bobwhites are pipped super early!!

Out of these latest hatches, the guineas are the biggest, and 1 hatched out 3 days early.

But the early ones are guineas (big) and bobwhites (tiny); coturnix (tiny) were on time; chukars (bantam) were on time and late, pheasant (bantam) was late.
So they aren't just early or late, they are not making any sense? I would think if it were a temp problem, the similar sized eggs would hatch the same, early or late-wise. And they aren't. Plus eggs that are way bigger (turkey) or way smaller (coturnix) are hatching right on time?? I don't think it's a temp problem, unless there is that much variation inside the bator? There shouldn't be, it's a forced-air 1583.

Well, you've got me stumped.

I wonder if the extra humidity on them has something to do with it.

It's got me stumped too! So do you think I should move the goose eggs early, or just keep a close watch on them? They should pip internally days before they pip externally, so I should be able to catch them if they do. I just don't want them to pip early while I'm still turning them!

Honestly I've got zero experience with geese. I'd probably leave them and keep a close eye on them.

I'd probably be obsessive and candle them every day while they were in their cooling period to make sure they hadn't pipped internally yet before I moved them to the hatcher!

I don't know, your temps can't be affecting the eggs, you must just have some that are excited to come out into the world and some that need a bit more sleep!

I just hatched out 6 of my bantam eggs, some came a day early, some two days late, all set the same day side by side in the same forced air bator. It doesn't make much sense, does it?
