Hey Everyone.....I'm back. Sorry I was MIA for those who were watching my first attempt at hatching eggs. My mom, sister, niece/nephew were visiting from out of town. And Yay, they got to see the hatching in progress.
My last hatch went great (well at least in my eyes, still would have like a better hatch rate). I am in love with my fuzzy butts! Out of 38 eggs we ended up with 13 Chicks.
7 Ameraucaunas (5 black/2 blues), 5 Easter Eggers, and 1 Black Copper Maran. I would have LOVED more BCMs as those are my favorites, but what can we do. I will try to post pics later. I've tried to take pics, but they move around too fast for me. The one good pic has a weird coloring due to the red lamp glow and me forgetting to use the flash.
Lessons I learned from my first hatch that I will "try" not to do again for future hatches.....Not to do big hatches. At least until I have more experience. Not to open the bators to help out chicks. The one I helped (which I believe ruined the rest of my hatches) died anyways. Everyone was hatching steadily until I opened the bator to help out the chick, then everyone just stopped hatching including one that was halfway zipped. And from now on I will be using two bators. One to incubate, the other to hatch. I will also try to keep my hatches about a week apart.
What I have now in the bators:
10 Bourbon Red Turkey eggs on day 27 in my Genesis 1588 (which will now be my hatcher)
4 EEs also in my Genesis with my Turkeys on day 20. Put in to help turkeys learn to eat and drink.
10 White Silkies on day 2 of incubation in my
Brinsea Eco 20.
Happy Hatchings Everyone!
