MAY HATCH-A-LONG come join in

I was ready to give up on all of my Serama eggs yesterday. I put a bunch of pullet eggs into the incubator without writing the date on the calendar (I meant to go back and do it!) (REALLY!) and so I wasn't certain when they were due. I'd guess-timated Wednesday, the day came and went and there was nothing.

I had put a couple of eggs that a first time broody had abandoned in with them and one of those hatched about a week ago. I candled a Serama egg yesterday and couldn't see any movement, just darkness.

Because we are having friends over for dinner tonight, and I knew that the day would be hectic, I told my husband that I would give them until Tuesday and then I would crack them open and see how developed they were, etc...

They must have heard me because we woke up to three little fuzzy butts in the incubator! Another one has hatched and there are seven more with various stages of pipping and zipping. HOORAY!

I am so happy!!!!

Congrats to all who have hatched out such beautiful little chicks, the reports &/or pics are wonderful! For all who are waiting, go pips & zips, GO! A special yippie to those broody hens for doing such a great job!

moorechicks: All you can do now is wait, sounds like you've done everything you can for now to cool them down. The egg is amazing, so don't give up, my fingers are crossed for you.

Surprise! when I went to candle the remaining eggs last night one was working her way out. I candled the others and I will leave them a few more days. One of them looked cracked but when I pulled back the shell there was no movement so I was about to write it off until I pulled a little bit of shell that exposed the beek and she started churping. I told my daughter to hold her and keep her warm and when she put her hand over the whole she bit her

. It was funny.

Put all the eggs back and now I have two more. So 9 out of 14 original so far. I have 3 eggs unhatched, 2 died and, one that didn't look like it was furtile. They have been hatching for 3 days now and they were 3-4 days late even starting.

Here is a better picture of mom and the babbies.

Congrats on all the baby's this month and all the current pipping, zipping and hatching little ones!

Today is lockdown for me but later before I go to bed. This is my 5th or 6th hatch this spring, but the first using local non-shipped eggs, so I am very hopeful. I have 29 eggs in there, Lavender & BBS Orpingtons and Lavender Ameraucanas, both LF and Bantam. Getting very excited!!!!

Well my Silkie has done it

Her eggs where due the 23rd and 1 hatched yesterday, and 2 so far today. (the other 2 are pipping and zipping right now) So hopefully the other 2 will make it

I noticed something about the chicks thit time.. they ALL have a little bit of feathering on their feet... wich doesnt make since to me.. the 2 "main" roosters in the bigger girls pen dont have fethered feet at all but their is one younger maran rooster with feathered feet but he usually doesnt get a chance to mate.. and for him to have fertilized all those eggs would be unlikely for him since the other roosters tend to beat him up... but who knows

One of them i am very puzled on though.. She is a little easter egger chick and she has feathered feet too but her mom does not.. and it seems like all the eggs fertilized by my OEGB/EE roo have stripes like this little chick and he does nto have feathered feet either.. usually the chicks from my EE hen are white with one black dot or stripe on them and not like all the chicks from my OEGB roo... Well i guess i will never know.. im just gratefull to have a hen willing to incubate eggs for me

gwill23: Yes, what a wonderful surprise, another pip!

I had always thought the same way about my "2nd in command" rooster, until I began to realize what a "sneak artist" he really is.

ma2babygurl13: Wow, what a nice group. I like the Mottled Houdan too, so different; but then they're all very nice.

Patchesnposies: Congrats! I've heard that Seramas are hard to hatch. You did good!

Total count for the Serama babies is 11. I am really happy with the results of my impromptu incubation. They are happy and healthy and there seems to be lots of colorful ones and two black.
