What a bummer, to get poor packaged eggs. The best packaged shipped eggs were each egg small bubble wrapped & taped, then 3 or so of those wrapped together in more bubble wrap, then surrounded by crumpled newspaper. I'll be tempted to request that eggs all be shipped that way in hopes to not insult the breeder/shipper. I've been spoiled by receiving such well prepared eggs. Good luck & happy hatching!

Yes, I have seen some "side air cells" that were in a few eggs that were damaged in shipping & the air cells were "loose" instead of only at the wide end. I always "settle" my shipped in eggs over night now & candle right away (or just before putting into the incubator) to see if the air cells are out of place or "loose" & mark those on the top of the eggs to see if they hatch ok (to learn from). Good luck with that, maybe put an x over the air cell to see how that works out. Sometimes I've seen a properly placed air cell & a "side" one too, do you have that? Happy hatching!

Yeah a chick hatched! Congrats! Will have to add "clucking & peeping" to my list of "how to help a chick hatch." Personally, my favorites are occasionally shinning my tiny flashlight in a few short spurts into/at a pip hole/spot or tapping finger nail on the incubator side like pipping/zipping sounds. We do have our fun! Glad the kids got to see it!

woldtracks: Sending you hugs & good vibes, you've been thru a lot lately. Condolences on your family losses, that's never easy. Maybe think of doing some little thing that makes you happy & makes you feel centered, you deserve that.

Good luck with your new Sportsman. Maybe pick up some inexpensive, local "whatever kind" eggs from someone that just sells fresh (with a rooster in with the hens & hopefully unrefrigerated) eggs for eating. You'll know by day 7 or 10 if any are viable/hatchable & will not have paid much for testing your new incubator & gathering more experience. Surely you could find someone to buy the chicks, enjoy them until their sold & make a little money back to help with what you've put out on shipped eggs.

Happy you got 4 EE's. Count those blessings & enjoy playing with them, bet they're cute!

Polish are cool looking, hope you get some someday. I'll have to drum up a funny sales ad for some that I saw last year & post it for you to see. Happy hatching!

I've had some bad hatches, but do much better now after learning from them & riding out the ups & downs. Best wishes with your new eggs.

I'd certainly wait a couple of days longer, before cracking open any eggs to investigate & learn from. Some factors that can create a slow hatch are low incubator temps, counting days wrong, breed types, genetics, etc. Hope it all goes well for you. Hang in there & try again.

I've been away from the computer too. A lot of us use that waffle like no skid shelf liners in the incubators, I also use it for the first few days in my brooders (they wash & sanitize easy). I use it to prevent spraddle leg, where they can have a leg or two out to the side & not strong under them to walk right. They are either weaker types and/or are prone to it on slippery surfaces like newspaper, papertowels, etc. where they can't get a good grip under them. The few times that I had the leg problem last year, the pipe cleaner brace thingy worked very well & easy to use.

Happy hatching!

Bummer. . . My first egg pipped late last night, and was doing a good job zipping, but the little one just couldn't make it:hit This is my first hatch, and there a still 7 eggs left, but it makes me so sad. I know first hatch are hard, but I am hoping to get just one out of the eggs to hatch completely. Will keep you posted.
