May hatch-a-long

No wolf she's fine. I'm lucky if i see mine broody of the nest, I think she gets up in the morning before the others get moving to much, but then again she is staying on her eggs despite others trying to share the nest. There are only like 2 herbs and 1 guinea she lets near her right now and she doesn't move for them.

If your hens are trained to come to treats get some mealworms or make some eggs and see if she will come to that the extra protien is good for her right now, but don't stress about it as long as she is off the nest at least once a day
thanks yes she will get off the nest if she knows i have treats thanks for your help

What is the longest time you have experienced for chicks to hatch? Mine are at day 24, not in an incubator, under broody hen
i think the most ive had to wait was day 20 even then i was worried sick that they would not hatch but this last hatch i just did i had to wait to day 22 for one egg to hatch but i ended up having to toss it

so i was thinking about lock down with my broody hen and i was thinking the broody hen is in the hens fav laying spot and it is off the ground the roost is right next to it and there is a ladder should i move her before lock down will the chicks fall

24 days is rough. Have you candled the eggs at all? You deffinatly need to check them and make sure things are going ok. It is possible if she wasn't fully commited at the start they may be a day or 2 behind. I would candle or water test then for movement. And if they are bad either get her some feed store chicks or break her broody.

Yes the chicks will fall most should handle the fall just fine but there is an added chance of lose. I would at least move her to a ground nest. If she's a good broody she won't let anyone on the nest at lockdown but there is still a risk of broken eggs. I would try to keep her in the coop if possible sectioning off a safe area with food and water for her.

would it be ok to put a tote on the floor of the coop on its side and maybe some curtains will i break her if i move her at night and should i move her sooner then before lock down thank you so much for your help
