Pic 1are chanteclers.
Pic 2 & 3 are 2 of the pure buckeyes. There are quite a few that are considered "wild". They're not purebred somewhere down the line. Easy way to tell is if it has chipmunk stripes - those are the wilds.

One of the chicks that was under my light sussex broody had fallen out of the nest and was so cold when I went to check on her this morning. I tried to warm it up but sadly it died :(

I've taken the remaining 3 eggs off her and popped them in the incubator, I don't trust her to look after them! The eggs are rocking and cheeping and one has pipped so fingers crossed for some chicks soon!

I've really been put off using large fowl for broody's this year, I never lost any chicks under my bantams but have lost 5 out of the 9 chicks I've hatched under my big chickens. Time to get some more bantams!

i have an rir that has been in the laying box all day and i went to check on her and she had eaten a egg:barnieand i took her out of the laying box and all she did was stand there and she did not move too much so i sat there and patted her back and then went to go get my egg basket i came back to get the uneaten eggs and she was back on the eggs :confused:is she laying an egg or could she want to be broody like my other hen :wee:pop

thanks i hope i get a pip its day 19 and she just got off the nest there was no hen keeping her from it or anything could it be that its hot here and she needs to cool off
Just keep an eye to make sure she goes back. With only 1 egg it's hard to know what will happen. If its hot she might have taken a break to cool down.

Hard to say reds don't usually but there's nothing saying they won't. I'd be more worried about why she ate an egg then if she's broody right now.

thanks she did lay an egg but she did not get off the nest but i have not checked on her since then but my broody has gotten off three times today but she goes back every time

All 3 of mama's chicks are out of the coop and on the ground, she has a box for a new nest ready and waiting for her and her chicks. I only had to place 1 chick on the ground for her and she wasn't to upset about it. I'll keep then in the mini run a few days while they build their strength before letting mama take them out around the other chickens. She's a very happy hen right now

what day did they hatch im on day 19 and still waiting for a pip:barnie:pop:caf
Wolf don't worry so much they can hatch anytime between about day 19 and 23. There are a lot of things that can effect that.
Heck all 3 of mine hatched yesterday on day 19 with the first pip on day 18. It doesn't mean much. You just have to give it time. Day 21 is tomorrow for me

thanks im hoping shes a good mama to the chick i hope she does not let the other hens get to her chick :fl but i think she will be a great mama
