May hatch-a-long

So know that I’m done incubating EE eggs I would love some more and I’m looking for some polish eggs but I have no idea where to find them does anyone know a breeder that will ship them

I bought some chickens last year from a lady who breeds them. She had a ton of them. I'm not sure if she ships though. Where are you located?

Day 21... The first baby of our Welsummer hatching eggs from Kummer Poultry to hatch this morning. We've got two more pips right now and waiting on more.

I am so confused. Time from internal pip to external. Had an internal pip sometime in the night. I read a thread on here that external pip should get within a few hours. That worried me, so I made a safety hole at 2pm.

I regret that decision as chick was probably fine, and now risks shrink wrapping. When I made the hole I did put ointment on it inner membrane (what I could get to with a qtip). There are still veins on the inner membrane I am allowing to receed.

I looked at the assisted hatch page and it is vauge on timeline between internal and external pip.

I am mad at myself for meddling/worrying too much. I may have done more harm than good.

What are you experiences in internal pip to external pip?

While I had the bator opened, I quickly candled and 4 of the 6 have internal pips. Not helping anymore. I know 1 internally pipped this morning, but I am not making the same mistake 2x.

I just wish the time was clear on how long it can take from internal to external. Reading "a few hours" is what worried me.

Here is the thread I was referring to. We should update it with better info to prevent meddlers like me from intervening too early...

I plan for 24 hours internal to external pip. And another 24 for pip to zip. Some move through the process faster. You jumped the gun a bit but probably did no harm. Just leave it alone unless it really need help.

I think it's much like with humans. Some labours go quickly, and some drag on forever.
