May Hatch-a-Long!

Pics
Well ending day 21 & 35 ..... 7/11 chicks hatched, remaining 4 have no internal pips and I don't see movement..... 3/5 Muscovies with 1 zipping, the last one has no internal pip or movement, it was trying to pip internally at lockdown. It doesn't look good for these last 5, I'll give them another couple days. Those that hatched are quite loud and healthy.

That's over a 60% hatch, so not bad. I would have been thrilled to get even 8% (just one egg) hatch out of my shipped turkey eggs, but alas, it was not to be, as I ended up with zilch (most didn't even start, and those that did ended up with blood rings by the 2nd week).
IMHO, unless you are sure the eggs are goners, I'd give them another couple days at least.

I'm usually obsessed with my eggs the first week, then I ignore them other than turning for the next little bit. Then I put them into lock down and usually by day 20 I get my first chick. This last time I was sitting on the couch watching TV with my oldest son and I just got a feeling I should go check the eggs, went in my room and could hear them peeping and got to watch the first one hatch. Then I was glued to the thing for the rest of the day. Lol. Fell asleep with all eggs pipped and 5 hatched. Woke up to all eggs hatched except one. Took it out to inspect and that chicken was turned in a way it never could have pipped. If I had opened the egg earlier I could have saved it I just know it, but oh well, these things happen.

Strange. One of my 9 day old bantam chicks (a mix with Silkie feathers) has crusty skin along one wing and the side of his neck. The skin also looks rather bare. I have 41 other chicks, none of whom are doing this, and I have no idea what it is! There is nothing crawling on the chick. I can't figure it out.

It's hatch day over here. I have one so far, it's loudly cheering on it's siblings.

And now back to incubator TV with me.

And, it isn't a Show Girl? Bare neck? The bare necks will get peely. I pick it off, and at times put a dab..very small dab of vaseline on them. Don't want too much, they get greasy feathers. :D

It looks promising. They should hatch Monday and there are some rolling around merrily in there so fingers crossed :) I've seen 4 moving the egg around so hopefully pips will soon follow :) 8 to lockdown will see how many hatch :)

A Memorial Day hatch. Great. I believe humidity is very important with duck eggs.
