May hatch along :)

How long do you wait to put them in the brooder??
It depends on how many eggs I am incubating. I have a 24 egg incubator. If I have 18 eggs or less in lockdown, I leave them until they all hatch, or when action has significantly stopped, usually early day 22. If I have more than 18, I will take the dry ones out late day 21, just because the incubator is pretty full with 18 chicks. I used to leave any amount until day 22, but my last hatch I had a couple that had trouble hatching because they had gotten sandwiched between chicks and egg cells. It's just my personal preference to do it that way, because that is what has worked for me. There are people that pull them much earlier, and I'm not saying they are wrong. I think it's important that everyone finds what they are comfortable with, and what works for them, and go from there. I also never assist chicks hatching, either, but that's another story, and I totally shut everything down at the end of day 23, no matter what is happening

OK I was just wondering. I agree that everyone has a way of doing things and I don't think there is a wrong way. I personally take them out when they dry but I have never had a problem. I have only helped 1 chick that had a hard time hatching as it was hatching out the pointy side of the egg.

Oh I bet! How many more do you have to hatch?

Video just isn't the same~ Of course you might be looking in an incubator for several hours.
We started with 12....as of now 3 have hatched. Thanks to a half day at school the kids were able to watch the 3rd hatch. Chicks are doing good. Just gonna leave them for the moment since there are 9 more that need to hatch. Thanks for helping earlier.

I think there are so many different factors at play when you decide to pull your chicks out...or open it to assist for that matter.

I have found that it is trial and error...mostly by geographical location and breed and incubator. You may also want to ask your breeder what they have the best success rate with for that particular breed & when they pull their hatchers.

I had a terrible hatch rate on dry hatch...when I asked the breeder I get my silkie eggs from what she incubates at she was at 55%RH day 1-18 and 65% RH at hatch and temp 100 degrees in a cabinet. (Florida area)

So, i incubate at 53% and hatch at 62% RH at 99.8 degrees...and boom...I got hatchers. (Upstate NY...dry old farmhouse) I did however invest in a good cabinet incubator since my styrobator was hard to keep temps on...

Every egg I have ever assisted are dead. Some within a day to 3 months... Heartbreaking.

Try and err and find what works best for you. I have had 0% hatch rates and luckily some 100%! Happy hatching!
