I have chicks coming from everywhere. 2 broodies hatched out some little cuties - 8 at the end of April. 1.5 weeks ago a couple hatched in the incubator. 3 more hens sitting on eggs and then another one just went broody. Below are some of the pictures. I have quite a variety of chicks Olive Eggers, French Black Marans, Orloff mix, silkies, cream legbar and some of my barnyard mix. I also have another gal wanting to sit on eggs. My ladies do such a good job of hatching out the chicks.
Out of 12 Blue Scale Quail eggs I have 10 left that seem to be doing well. They have 8 days left.
I have 8 Button Quail eggs but it is pretty much impossible for me to candle them so I have no idea how many are fertile. They also have 8 days left.
I started with 7 Hungarian Partridge eggs shipped to me from South Dakota and unfortunately it seems that only 2 of them were fertile. I will keep my fingers crossed that both hatch and that one is male and one female. My goal with these was to get a breeding pair. They should hatch 5/31 or 6/1. I haven't discarded any yet, just in case.
When it comes to choosing when to assist hatchlings, my personal rule is that if that I don't open the incubator until the first hatchling has been in there for 24 hours. My incubators are both terrible about losing humidity when I open them and 99% of the time I don't have any problems with chicks getting stuck unless they were pipped when I opened the incubator. If I have a chick who has pipped but hasn't made any progress in at least 12 hours I will step in and try to help. So far I have had very good luck with helping chicks out of their shells when they were only stuck because I'd opened the incubator to remove chicks.
Peeked under my broody this morning and found one baby hatched then had to leave right after for an overnight field trip with my son.. It's killing me not knowing how there doing and if there all hatched yet.
The two little amerucanas have hatched! 14 more to go! This is my first time using a little giant and these eggs were shipped so hopefully a few more will pip and hatch out!
