I am going to whisper this, cause every time I get excited, it turns out bad BUT, I woke up to 2 pips. Normal pips!

Wow did I get behind this week! 500 posts!

It's busy at our place! Today is lockdown for my Welsummer and 2 EE eggs due to hatch starting on Friday. Plus I have some French Black Copper Marans, an Olive Egger, a Blue "Amerilusion" and 2 other EE's due to start hatching 2 days later. I'm so excited!

I tossed 4 earlier last week, 2 were blood rings and 2 were clears. Of the rest only 1 EE in the far back corner is questionable.

We're also raising up our 4-5 week old farm yard mix chicks and a broody mama who has 3 chicks about 3 weeks old. With so many new chicks we're building a second coop! I'm very excited about it.

Here you can see the new one in progress plus the kennel we're using for the broody mama and her chicks.

And then right next to the kennel is my existing coop. Here I made a new moveable ramp so the baby chicks can join the flock in the next couple days!

This is the result of chicken math!!!! LOL

Well hello again everyone, Sorry no post's the past 18days. Been stormy here and I have been really busy. Went in to lockdown yesterday. This is my second time of trying this bator thing.

Did not have good luck last time. did check the eggs from last time and I should have had about 75% to 80% hatch rate. I shrank wrapped them. but not this time. Lockdown is Lockdown. so here goes my

day 22 ? I have 14 to go if they go I feel a few more late bloomers will come but after fight a 22 hour power outage I'm lucky to be where I am I kept up and hatched 14 over night running on a power inverter and cords from the truck I only had a few dips down to 95.7 no big deal really but at this late in the game it's all about being delicate and that was not in the game plan last night I had to pull chick three times but still on a six count I'll let these others cook while go to work and get some rest

This is the result of chicken math!!!! LOL

It totally is! We have 21 hens that are a year old, 20 chicks from the hens that I hatched in the bator (the roo is gone now), the 3 chicks from the broody and now these due this weekend.

Chicken math! I only wish the coops multiplied as easily! Lol

Chicken math for myself....Well I will set 9 fresh eggs, but I want a fair amount of hens. Plus not all eggs are fertilized and/or will develop to hatch day. So what do I do? Add 7 more eggs that were in the fridge meant for eating...I mean really, how many of those will actually hatch?? One of the fridge eggs turned out to be a call duck egg (cool). So today is lock down and ALL 15 developed and should hatch! Yikes. Am excited to see what comes out since they are all mutts. Except for the OEGB, who may be part mutt.

Well, I figured since all of my hens are dual purpose, and the rooster is a dual purpose, then the chicks should be as well.

I can't imagine having 18 chicks and what you thought was a dead hen show up....did you figure out where she had been hiding?

I know they are famous for it but I had a white guinea pull that on me last year. And she showed up with 18 herself. She was never seen until after hatch and we found the nest cuz a couple lates were chirping. The other hen was out and about quite often for the treats though, she came back with 16 a week after the 18 batch.

Candled the quail eggs today, I saw veining in every single one!!! So glad the post didn't totally do them in. They arrived with a leaky box and 5 cracked eggs so I had little hope. Surprisingly my husband is excited about the quail, he like many other spouses do not get the incubating fever but is supportive non the less. We may stick with the quail, love my chickens but man are quail economical birds! Plus if my hubby is excited it is Sooo much more fun!

Congrats to all those with hatchlings!!!! And good luck to those who are waiting still!!!! :D
