May Hatch Thread--Fill up those bators n' broodies!

I've had 7 hatch and 2 others are just hanging out in there shells half way out. Seven eggs with still no pip or movement.

I have a big problem with one of the hatched chicks. I woke up this morning to find blood all over the incubator and the remaining eggs! One of the chicks has a bloody sack protruding from its butt. I posted for help and did some research. i have now isolated him in the incubator in his own container on a damp paper towel. I also put a little cornstarch on the bleeding area. He has good energy and is bleeding a little less.

Anyone have any ideas about how to help him, what this is, or if he'll make it?

Also, will the blood all over the bator harm my chicks and remaining eggs?

Any info is appreciated!

No the blood is fine. A few of mine have blood on them as well.
Watch his little opening and make sure it doesn't get infected. It should heal up in around 24 hours.

Hey Mel what ya gonna set for June ?

I don't know. I have set a handful of eggs from my buff orps that are due early in June, but selling the hatching eggs for a while now - I think its important to spread the genes of my gorgeous birds to other breeders as well, in case my flock should be struck with a disease and need culling at some point. Haven't ordered any eggs to put in the bator in the near future.

I'm considering to try getting a hold of some isbar, araucana and maran eggs to form a laying flock without roosters, just to get some fancy eggs. It's hard to get a hold of these breeds in Norway so I'm currently in the process of contacting breeders and trying to convince them into selling hatching eggs to me. Crossing my fingers I find something to stuff the incubator with before I go to the hospital for fixup!!

Djees, you really are hatching chicks like popcorn lol, are you keeping all of the chicks or selling some of them?

Today is day 17... Lockdown-eve and all night last night I dreamed I heard cheeping and peeping coming from my incubator, then the egg hatched in the egg turner and the chick was hurt... I think I got up and looked like three times to see if It was actually happening or if it was just a dream.. Geez!! I still have 4-5 days of this!

I am woman, I dont need sleep....LOL
These eggs are making me batty! I have been running low temps (unknown to me) for most likely my whole hatch! I have $240 worth of eggs in there!!!!
. Yeeks ,,, well low is doable thank the chicken gods ! Two to three above and you have fried chicken , and as far as the cash moma I feel ya my U.S hatch do on the 21st is all of that and more considering the travel gas and expenses probably works out to $15 per egg and I already culled 17 of 18 Sussex at that price so I can appreciate your pain when it comes to everything going right !!!

Shouldn't he snap out of it by now? So 12 hours old and still can't find his feet. His neck is pointed straight up and he acts like its painful to lay normal. He only lays belly up. My husband thinks he should be culled. I just can't do that yet.
I'd at least give it 48 hours - it just takes some longer than others. Exhaustion from hatching has a different affect on each chick.
