May Hatch Thread--Fill up those bators n' broodies!

No this is a whole different breeder. I am going to a HUGE swap this weekend. You can bet I am bringing back some eggs! At least I know how they are being handled.
AND my Tolbunts that were due the 22nd still havent arrived! They left the final sorting facility at 4pm yesterday. This facility is only 1 hr 15 mins from my post office. Yet somehow they never made it for their 7am sort this morning!!! Now I have to wait for their last dump which is at 11am and see if they arrive then. Come on 15 hrs to travel 1 hr 15 mins away????
EL I swear its the USPS that are doing so much damage to these eggs making the hatch rate now 25% at BEST! That is without fertility issues thrown in there!
. Yes I'm with u on the postal service they don't seem to give a crap any more but I can say this I live in a country where the postal service is almost non existent so what we have back home beats a blank by a mile , keep your eyes peeled for them coronations at the swap we might get lucky and find a breeder in your neck of the woods , as for me I'm gonna go check out the brahma guy up north Sunday I still have not had time to send you that fb link to his page so I can get your opinion on his stock but you know my options here are very very limited

I still have the one lady that I sent you pics of her birds, she is testing fertility now. I have a couple more but a little further drive than you were wanting. I will definitely have my eggs peeled for you!!!!

Thanks for this but I only read it this this morning. This is day 21!!!!!!!! Wish I knew before lockdown!!!! Darn!
We did what you said and the temp dropped to 34 but came up again quite quick. but the humidity level would only go to 55 then dropped again. WHen I came in tonight temp was sitting 38 and Humidity 49 so I sprayed again and it went up to 61 highest ever and now it is going down again. Honestly if I put anymore water in it will leak out the bottom and DH has it on a Mahogony dresser - Men!!!

I am begining to worry loads that they are dead as nothing is happening and I think we have scrambled eggs again - I just want this agony to be over. DH said if it fails this time we will sell the Bator on Ebay and get some chicks. I so miss Gerty and Bertha the yard is empty without their personallity about the place. Breaks my heart - I have to remind myself they are just chickens but I loved them!

Oes

. Well oes I am still hoping you hatch a chick this go round and I hate to think you and the DH are thinking of giving up on hatching . I personally find it very rewarding and fun to hatch my own and we two were plagued by set backs and disappointments but we plowed onward and even to this day we have complete failures but just set more look at the notes compare what went right and wrong and try to correct and improve the hatching I do think allot of your problems lie in the bator you are useing and could be corrected by getting rid of it as you said on eBay and buy a hova genisiss I'm not a advocate for any make or model as I have had luck with coolers and light bulbs but it truly is a great bator for the money and beginner and is a set it and forget for the most part , but I am not giving up on this hatch yet I'm sending good hatching vibes from central America to ya

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO If you still have eggs to hatch DO NOT open that incubator. You risk shrink wrapping the ones yet to hatch!

thanks!! yeah, I read that they should stay in for 24 hrs before putting in the brooder. They are just rolling the other eggs around in their flailing!! Hope the others will start pipping and zipping soon!!

Keeping my fingers crossed for you, Helen!

Mine had day 21 yesterday. I've been travelling and visiting friends, so didnt make it home until today and guess what - 4 gorgeous little fluffy hedemora chicks in the bator! I bought 20 shipped eggs, put all in the bator. None were infertile, 7 quit early, 13 went into lockdown and only 4 hatched. That's 1/5 eggs hatching, not a result to go crazy about... But at least I got some babies! This was my most exciting hatch so far, the ones that I hatch from my own chickens have had a 100% hatch rate and they all look the same(buff orps) so it's not quite as exciting

Congrats on all the new chickens out there! So sorry I haven't been able to pop by this week, things have been so busy.
