I donāt know if anyoneās ever had a situation like mine. But last December in 2021, my Black SexLink hen of 5.5 years passed to an illness. But around June, my father and I decided to incubate some of the eggs of the many chickens we have and to see our results. Surprisingly enough when hatch date came, we saw many of the same Junglefowl colors with a few speckled sussex and one Wyandotte chick, then there was the one odd black chick with a brown mark under its chin and black feet.
We werenāt even sure if this chick was ours because it was my fathers friend who had the incubator and had other eggs in there as well. But now looking at her as an adult, sheās definitely one of ours. Now sheās about 8-9 months old and she is a splitting image of the old black sexlink hen we had but in a mini version since she was mixed with a Junglefowl(hybrid) rooster with slightly darker eye pupils. She also lays a dark brown small egg.
Usually people say that the success rate or hatch-ability is a few weeks, but this egg somehow lasted since December till June, so months before it was even incubated, so how did it survive? They were just in egg cartons for months because there were so many and she stopped laying for the last weeks before her death as well from canker, so Iām not sure how it came to be. She is beautiful and has a shinier plumage but has quite a rude behavior and broody which the mother never had the tendancy to do, as expected since she was raised by a vicious broody step mother and both parents had their aggressive quirks to them but the fathers genetics have a more wild and motherly nature. Another plus to this mix is that her daughter can fly like her father
. So I guess it is possible everyone, so never doubt the hatchability even if itās been months. Because my hen made it so your eggs might too.
I have a few photos of her growing up. Iāll show some photos of the mother for reference and any decent photos I can find of her.
