I have a Golden Comet that has laid 5 eggs in her 16th-17th week. She is real good about nesting box. Now in her 18th week she hasn't laid in 2 days but really acts like she wants to. My question is she ok or is there help for her? She acts normal and healthy in every other way (holding, petting). Thanks for some fowl wisdom!

I think it is pretty normal. Chickens do not lay an egg every single day. They don't lay at the same time either. But especially in the beginning, they start, stop, get the hang of it and get going.

I would not expect egg binding in a young bird. General rule of thumb, if they are active, eating, have bright eyes - they are healthy.

I had a young hen that started laying and after a couple of weeks she would go to the nest box, sit for a while, then get out and yell very loudly and wouldn't stop until I went to see if something was wrong. Then she'd go back to the nest box and do the same thing again. This went on for two days and she never laid an egg and seemed to be in distress. I decided the humane thing to do was dispatch her. She had a very large egg quite high in her body, not even close to the vent. I don't know that much about a chicken's internal structure because I don't raise them for meat but that just seemed wrong. Was that eggbound?
