Maybe we are related, what was your maiden name or your mama's?

Great Grandmothers side. Steinbauer, married to Fights With A Bear (souix) later shortened to ABear, then changed to Major via a dispute in the family. un marrieds still retain the Major or Abear last name. All are related in some way or another.

Grand fathers side, Marcotte changed to Marcott.decended from Flosom from England some split off to rename as Smithe, later dropping the E to be just Smith.
it gets all so confusing sometimes.

I will have to reask the hubby about his relations in the Black Foot Tribe, I can never keep it all straight.

Through the years, I've done a little family research. I'll just make a list of all the last names that I know are my ancestor families.
My father's side........Gilmer/Gilmore, Buffington, Epps, Bent, Busbin, and Gunnels.
Mother's side.........Ledford, Curtis, White, Thomas, Cathey, Adams, Tankersley, and Pruitt. From Georgia/N.C./S.C.

Several years back, my wife did some geneology research and discovered we were both related to Daniel Boone's grandfather. My son, who was 16 at the time, wanted to know if that made him a redneck?

Not to train wreck this thread but I do not think it is safe to give out maiden and mothers maiden names. I think you leave yourself at risk of someone stealing your identity. It is too bad the world is like this but better to be safe.

My maiden if Rhodes, my father is from Illinois. My mother is a Madson from Brooklyn. Now my Dh has a really interesting side its Bowyer which means bowmaker and he is related to the family of royal bowmakers that the Bowyer Tower is named after. He can trace his lineage wayyyyyy back. Me, well I'm a mutt

I remember some time ago I heard that websites like geaneology.com are free if you use them from a city library. I haven't tried it so I can't verify 100%.

May be worth a try if someone has the day free.

Why wouldnt they talk about where they were from. You have me curious:)

My mother's maiden name was Doody, her mother was a Dailey, and from her mother was O'Hara. The O'Hara's came over from Ireland, but it was suspected that one of the daughter's was pregnant when she arrived and unmarried. But we never got any details about it. My mother tried to get some tidbits from my grandmother before she died, but Grandma wasn't letting anyone know any details (she lived to be 103!) I suppose she was ashamed of the history.

She was a little vain.

We are all guessing she (the preg daughter) had an affair with a stagecoach driver for a rich family in Ireland where she was a governess. They scooped her up and came to the USA.
