Wow, that was interesting!

I am pretty interested in that whole mess, actually. Have you ever read "The Devil in Massachusetts"? I recognized a lot of my neighbors (and myself) in that book - it was scary, in a way

The part where it tells about afterwards, though, is what was really neat - the new pastor came in and he really worked hard to fix the community and everyone's attitudes towards each other.

It just boggles me, still, how they could have gone so crazy over the whole deal - how do you watch your neighbor being hung/tortured and not speak out? or even relish the event? -- Or even have doubts yourself (if you were afraid to speak out).

Mass hysteria, scary stuff. I'll check that book out. Thanks!

OK lets start with Dads parents
Pa was a Hill and Nan was a Read both from English backgrounds.

And for Mums side
Grandad is a Roggensack from Germany and Nana is a Jordan whose mothers maiden name is Wheeler.

My Great Grandmothers Great Grandfather was James Evans of African and Cherokee background who moved to Australia in the mid 1800's or there abouts.

Sorry I can't be more specific I seriously need to look up my family history.

Ok, for reference (posted my names earlier)...

for name Kinney, Kinny, Kenney, Kinne -

the Kinne family was in Salem during the witch trails - Henry Kinne was one of those who signed the warrant for Martha Corey and Rebecca Nurse. He was married to the cousin of Ann Putnam's father and was their neighbor. (his wife was also Ann Putnam - they obviously weren't very imaginative with names in that little group.)

curiously enough, after the trials all ended, and the new pastor brought some sanity to the flock of folks, Henry's son married Rebecca Nurse's granddaughter (who was named after her).

so, by marriage, I guess I am also related to Rebecca Nurse - but no direct line.

does anyone have Salem ancestors?

meri

I have a direct line to Rebecca Nurse. It's on my father's side. I also have a direct line to Sarah Goode who also died in the Salem Witch Trials. We traced my father's ancestors all the way back to Wales, and England to 1589. My family came over on the Mayflower, and we are directly related to the first Govenor of Rhode Island. I have MANY Salem ancestors, and should you need any info I can probably help supply some info for you.

that would be cool, thanks - let me find time to dig back into my notes

and I may have some questions for you.

I had a long history of the Kinne family (books written on it, even) - but it took me four years to find where my line tied into it (soooo many Amos Kinneys

) . Like hitting your head against a brick wall sometimes, but I love genealogy.

I found one Kinney in there so far. She married a John Blackmar ( 1698) Her name was Jemima Kinney.
On the Nurse side I can tell you what surnames to look for, or you can tell me
