I just don't get why pig snout, and especially tongue and intestines is such a travesty. People have been eating tongue, snout, tail, heart, liver, gizzards, tripe and intestines and head cheese and FEET forever. When they do it it's awesome home cooking but when McDonalds grinds it up it's horrifying? I'm pretty horrified by head cheese and it's a traditional southern food. My grandma has eaten beef tongue since she was a child and I've even eaten catfish tail. Pickled pig feet have been in our fridge--much to my disgust--since before I was born.
The preservatives and all that are bad for you, I concede to that. I just processed a chicken from my own flock for my family's Thanksgiving and while we don't eat the feet--I'm making backscratchers--we did keep the heart, gizzards, liver and neck to be eaten and the feathers and feet for crafting. I feel better using it all than tossing it.
I'm glad we are "told" that there are parts in the McRib but if you guys like the sandwich, don't let a little pork tongue run you off. There's plenty of other things wrong with McDonalds.
That being said, McDonald's is pretty bland and tasteless from a strictly "culinary" point of view. Burger King is burnt and I can wring Wendy's food out like a wet towel. I've lost my love of burger chains since I hit my twenties, but I do still eat Fazolis and Long John Sikvers and--horror!--Taco Bell. I know Taco Bell is probably killing me slowly but once or twice a week they'll hand me a giant sack of food for about five dollars so I cut my losses. I prefer homecooked food anyday but with a full time job and farm and crazy life I'm not always afforded the time or energy to cook every meal. I envy those that can afford to eat organic homeraised food every day and hope to get to that point someday!
