McCleary Chicken Massacre! (a bit of blood)

We rented the set-up from the Conservation District, $20 for everything.

That's amazing! Which or what Conservation District? I wonder if they have that sort of stuff available up here....

Not sure on how big I'll let them grow, but I'll monitor them to see if any health issues start to come to a head. I kept the three largest birds, two hens and a roo, but I hope to have them ranging out with the other birds. I'd like to see a dressed bird of 10-12 pounds. Maybe as much as 15, as long as the bird is healthy. I would really like to see the hens to laying age, just to see if they'll make it that far and try to hatch a few chicks.

I moved them in with my laying hens and turkeys, and after a minor squabble all was well. The turkeys actually cuddled up with the CX yesterday afternoon for a nap, as they were raised together for the first 4 weeks. That was interesting to see that bond still there.

Below is a shot of where the tractor was over the last week. Pretty amazing to see the swath of destruction,

but the spots from 2 weeks ago are already turning dark green so the field recovers pretty rapidly.

There is a Co-op in northern Kitsap County, near Poulsbo I believe, that has a plucker for rent, and possibly the whole outfit. I think they wanted $30, plus membership in the co-op. They advertised on Craigslist.

This was the Thurston County Conservation district.

The pierce county conservation district just acquired a setup like shown here. Rents for 20$ per day.

How heavy were the dressed birds in the photos? I did my biggest rooster on Sunday in the rain and he ended up being 4lb2oz. I wanted a bit more. I am at 11 weeks with the "slow" cornish from privett. The slow are too slow!

I know about http://www.agbizcenter.org/ up in Skagit county, but I wonder if there is anything closer to Seattle. 45 minutes each way practically doubles the rental price w/ gas prices these days.

BTW, they have comperable prices, maybe it's $25 / day, hopefully their setup is as good as the one you rented.
