McDonald's finally did something right

This has been an interesting thread to read, I just have a few thoughts I want to share.

First comment, the first video was hard to watch, I only watched a little bit. It's not easy to stomach, and I'm sure that there's a lot more that we don't know happening in the food industry. But as another poster said, make a video of us using culling practices, etc and put it to sad music and voila! You have an animal rights video.

I don't eat at McDonald's more than a few times in a year. I think the "cost" of cheap food is not always reflected in the "price" we pay for it.

About the OTHER video posted, the discovery channel video with the conveyor belt. I have the sound off so couldn't hear the commentary, but... HOW THE HECK did all those eggs go through the conveyor belt, up and down and all around and NOT get broken? I have a hard enough time with one egg in my pocket making it ok just from the coop to the house.

The white leghorns look so cute. Makes me want some, but I live in the frozen north, and don't have a heated hen house.

I LOVED Mac's photo with the girls entering the nest boxes to lay. All those girls going to work. Don't forget to punch your card, Ladies!

Your chicken are not packed in there , like the other pic....plus have alot more floor space, look at the other post pic with the golden comet. they are even fence out of space under the laying section. i know so they don't get caught in the belts.

just look at the two pics..if the other pic those chicken have no area between each hen, your pic shows alot more space between each hen.

I like Macs coop and all hens look very well taken care of. Now, how do I build myself something like that????

Have you owned white birds before? Unless you give them a bath they tend to get that tinge from dust bathing whether it is in dirt or litter.

When I say they are crap proof, it doesn't really stick to their feathers. The uninitiated would expect birds that get crapped on from overhead to be smeared with it, but they are pretty astute as to whether a bird above them is about to let loose. If they do get hit it just rolls off their feathers.

That's really poor management. Properly maintained litter is dry, friable, sanitary, and resembles loose dirt. Wet litter is disgusting, unsanitary, and produces large amounts of harmful gasses.

The bank owns most of it. We went for a 15 year mortgage though, so in 12 years the entire place is ours...

Thank you to everybody for the nice comments.

Anyone who has ever gone to mcd's goes for their low priced food and not a culinary experience. How do you think they manage to make money at such low prices? Only by buying cheaply produced raw materials. Humanely raised meat costs more. It's that simple.

I was actually inspired by thoes pictures. We had a big dutchman book that I would always steal from my grandpa and look through the pages. they arn't the exact pictures but they look like they same equipment. Mayb eif i win the lottery I'll be able to afford one. It probably costs about 1/2 a million to a million dollars to redo one of our coops to that design. Only thing good is we have an egg machine that still works from what I know so that would be about 1,000,000 less of an investment.
