McMurray Chicks Arrived! *PICS uploaded bottom of page 1*

I just got my McM order this morning! The postman called me at 8:15. One baby died, and it had to have been right before I picked them up

. I didn't see one chick that looked different from the others so I guess I'll just have to wiat and see what the exotic one is.

If you order online, you need to check the "Yes" box where they ask you if you want the free rare and exotic chick.

I also wanted to add in regards to an earlier post that another reason I use McMurray a lot is that they carry a TON of different breeds and have good availability on them.

It allows you to buy a comparatively small number of chicks and still get a wide variety of the breeds YOU want. That and you KNOW they are available on the date you want because they post availability data on every breed they sell.

By the time you buy one breed at hatchery A and a couple others at hatchery B, and have to buy at least their minimums and pay shipping on them you are very rapidly spending a LOT more money than you planned to, simply shopping based on the per chick price. And... you can easily end up having to buy many more chicks than you want or can handle, just to save a bit on the cost of the chicks themselves.

Remember the cost of the chick is a small percentage of the cost of the finished bird.

I had to look long and hard (and count) to find my rare and exotic. It is just a little lighter than the BO's and has gray legs.

A Silver Leghorn would be cool! I love the looks of them in their catalog. I would buy a couple, but I just don't wanna keep a Leghorn around when I'm not planning to keep any birds over the winter. It would be a shame to butcher a scrawny Leghorn.

I wish I had my own coop, so I could keep a laying flock, but I wouldn't ask my friends to pay the electric bill for heat lamps and water heating all winter...

Good luck with your assortment! I had kinda specific needs for my birds this year so I wasn't able to get any "fun" birds.

At least I got breeds I really like though.

I have 25 from McM different kinds I got in Feb, thay are all so healthy and happy I was very pleased with them as far as shipping, and chick condition. I did have one die at about 2 days old but that might have been my fault, I had to go to work and leave it rather weak and my DH just didn't know how to get it water.
