I just ordered 10 EE chicks from Murray McMurray (the ones they sell as "Araucanas/Americanas"). Anyone have photos of McMurray EEs to share? I am wondering what they may look like. I know its pretty much a lottery, but it may give me some idea of what to expect. Chicks arrive early March and I am so excited!

PS - Did I put this in the correct forum? I wasn't sure exactly where to put this question...

I got some from them two years ago. Here is the rooster I got from them:

The hens I got were all very attractive and healthy as well. I don't have any pictures of hens on this computer, but will post some later if I can.

Good luck with your chickens!

I really enjoyed my EE's from MM, they were a diverse group of hens and they layed really well. I was quite pleased. Of course it just fueled my interest in real ameraucanas and have since purchased breeder quality hens. I really like them too, but if you are looking for a bluer egg, it really didn't pan out. The EE's layed well and consistently layed blue or blue green eggs. So if pedigree doesn't matter to you (and most people it doesn't), enjoy your new babies.

I didn't know McMurray would do that. IF so I think they throw a bunch of rooster chicks in to fill the box and charge you an extra fee. Maybe someone who has done this can chime in. If you have any feed stores around that sell live chicks....sometimes they will let you order your with their order since they are getting hundreds. You'll have to pay their mark-up, but it may be less than the small order charges from the hatchery.

I do not see anywhere where McMurray will ship less than 25 chicks. What you can do is order what you want and then fill up the rest of the order with male chicks like the White Leghorn male chicks (the cheapest!). I had to do this and then gave the male leghorns away.

Thank you again, everyone! I am even more excited to see how mine turn out now! Your chickens are all so beautiful!

Lolita, I placed my order online and adjusted it so I had 25. I am not sure if it would have let me place the order if I had not had 25 so I can't tell you how that works. I did send them a question a day or two before I ordered through an electronic form on their site and I got a response very fast. You could ask through that medium and see what they can tell you. They have a number on their site as well. I am sure it is a question they get frequently. Good luck!
